Scherzligen church is of great historical importance.
The first church (double grave & memoria) was constructed on this site in approx. 500 AD.
Scherzligen Church is one of several thousand-year-old churches around Lake Thun. It is predated by an older church built on the site around 500 AD. The site is said to be a place of spiritual power. The interior is covered with tapestries and paintings of national importance that date from the 13th to the16th centuries. The Romanesque nave from the 10th century, the High Gothic choir from 1380 and the Carolingian tower from the 9th century have been painstakingly preserved. Take the time to enjoy the special and unique ambience of this historic site. You will be amazed by the gentle splendour of the painted choir and the brilliant composition of Passion images by the painter Peter von Bern.
