Thun-Panorama

Take a journey back in time with the Thun Panorama

wocher-panoramaThe Thun Panorama in Schadau Park belongs to the art museum of Thun. It was painted between 1809 -1814. It shows a circular image of the town of Thun, Switzerland, and was the first of its kind. It is the world's oldest surviving panorama painting. The artist Marquard Wocher sketched this 360 ° image of the town while seated on a roof in the middle of the Old Town. This unusual perspective allows the audience to take an intimate look into living rooms, classrooms and alleys. The huge painting, approx. 7.5m high and 38m long, shows details of the busy, early morning bustle of the town of Thun.
